Police in Jeju say a body found this week in a palm tree grove in Hallim-eup is believed to be that of a 37-year-old woman who had been missing since mid-May, though formal identification is still pending confirmation from the National Forensic Service.
Officers found clothing, slippers and a mobile phone at the scene that matched items belonging to the missing woman, whose disappearance was first reported on May 15. The body was located on August 24, more than three months after that initial report, ending a search that had stretched across the summer.
No Signs of Foul Play, for Now
Yoo Jae-sung, the acting commissioner of the National Police Agency, said investigators have found no signs of foul play so far, with the presumed cause of death being hanging. Investigators cautioned that the assessment could still change as the forensic review proceeds.
