SK Group agreed to provide roughly 750 billion dollars worth of high-performance chips to global technology firms, Nvidia among them, the kind of memory and advanced components that feed the world's fast-multiplying AI systems. The scale of that number underlines how central Korean chipmakers have become to the AI build-out. The models drawing headlines cannot run without the memory these companies produce, and locking in long-horizon supply gives both sides a measure of certainty in a market defined by shortages. ## Data centers and AI factories Beyond the chips, the parties agreed to invest jointly in large AI data centers, facilities envisioned at five gigawatts of capacity and stocked with some two million graphics processors. Power and GPUs are the two scarcest inputs in modern AI, and a project of that size is a bet on demand continuing to climb. Naver added its own piece, committing to about 10 billion dollars in what it called AI factories, built around a partnership with Nvidia and an infrastructure agreement with Brookfield. The arrangement pairs a Korean internet company's software ambitions with foreign capital and hardware. ## A national ambition President Lee framed the deals in sweeping terms. South Korea, he said, would make a leap forward to become an irreplaceable, core nation in the AI supply chain, and would build a world-class AI hub capable of reliably supplying the infrastructure the technology depends on. The gathering drew a heavy roster, with Samsung Electronics Executive Chairman Lee Jae-yong, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won and Presidential Chief of Staff Kim Yong-beom on the Korean side, and OpenAI's Sam Altman and Nvidia's Jensen Huang representing the American firms. ## Part of a bigger bet The San Francisco agreements sit on top of an even larger domestic plan.
